Stone Catcher

Stone cyclones for dense debris removal and downstream equipment protection
Product Group:
Screening Filtration Systems
Function:
Removes stones, bolts, metal fragments and other dense contaminants from slurry
Available Models:
SC-12, SC-24, SC-36

Overview

Komline-FluidQuip Stone Cyclones protect downstream wet milling equipment by removing dense, abrasive contaminants such as stones, bolts, pebbles and metal fragments from the process stream.

Installed ahead of mills, pumps, separators and hydrocyclones, the SC Series reduces mechanical wear, unplanned downtime and repair costs. The in-line cyclone design provides high separation efficiency with low pressure drop and a compact footprint.

Benefits

  • Protects critical equipment: Intercepts dense contaminants before mills, screens, pumps and centrifuges.
  • Improves plant reliability: Reduces abrasive wear and unexpected shutdowns.
  • Low pressure drop: Maintains process flow while separating heavy solids.
  • Simple maintenance: Replaceable high-wear components and automated purge hardware support continuous operation.

Key Features

  • 316 or 316L stainless steel construction
  • Replaceable spin-hardened stainless lower cone
  • Modular reject pot
  • Pneumatically actuated knife-gate valves
  • Continuous operation up to 50 psi
  • In-line mounting pads
  • Custom inlet and outlet connections

Operating Principle

Slurry enters the cyclone tangentially and develops a rotating flow pattern. Dense contaminants move toward the outer wall and descend into the reject pot, while the lighter process stream exits through the main outlet. The reject pot can be purged without interrupting the process.

Other Details

  • Applications: Corn wet milling, degermination mill protection, hydrocyclone and paddle-screen inlet protection, bioethanol and industrial grain processing.
  • Placement: Typically installed early in the slurry line or directly upstream of high-value equipment.
