Grit Removal System

Multi-stage hydrocyclone systems for abrasive grit and heavy-particle removal
Product Group:
Screening Filtration Systems
Function:
Protects downstream equipment by removing sand, rust, metal fines and dense contaminants
Available Models:
8", 6" and 3" grit removal cyclones

Overview

Komline-FluidQuip Grit Removal Systems remove abrasive particles and foreign material from industrial process streams before they reach pumps, mills, centrifuges and fine separation equipment. The systems use stainless steel hydrocyclones in single- or multi-stage arrangements.

Cyclone size, stage arrangement and purge hardware are selected for the required flow, particle range and plant layout. Two-stage systems can operate from a shared pump loop with low pressure drop and compact installation.

Benefits

  • Equipment protection: Reduces abrasive wear, blockage and unplanned downtime.
  • Stable downstream operation: Removes dense non-organic particles before sensitive process stages.
  • Compact integration: Modular frames and headers fit new systems and retrofit installations.
  • Low maintenance: Quick-disconnect couplings and automated purge valves simplify service.

Key Features

  • Spun 316L stainless steel cyclone bodies
  • Cast 15-5 PH stainless steel heads
  • Replaceable ceramic lower cones on 8-inch units
  • Integrated headers and piping for staged separation
  • Stainless support frame
  • Quick-disconnect couplings
  • Automated knife-gate purge valves

Operating Principle

Process slurry enters each cyclone tangentially. Centrifugal force moves dense grit and abrasive particles toward the cyclone wall and lower reject outlet, while the lighter process stream continues through the clean outlet. Multi-stage layouts improve removal across a broader particle range.

Other Details

  • Typical configuration: Three 8-inch first-stage cyclones followed by one 6-inch second-stage cyclone on a shared support structure.
  • Applications: Mill-stream grit removal, pre-filtration, wet milling slurry conditioning and industrial wastewater pretreatment.
