Germ Separation

Germ separation in corn wet milling
Product Group:
Separation
Function:
Separate corn germ for oil recovery and starch yield optimization
Available Models:
GS-6″, GS-8″, GS-9″

Overview

Komline-FluidQuip’s Germ Separation Cyclone Systems are engineered for reliable, high-efficiency performance in corn wet milling applications. Designed to maximize output with minimal floor space, these systems offer a compact footprint, long service life, and easy maintenance. With 6", 8", and 9" cyclone options available, each system is configured based on customer-specific flow rates and capacity requirements.

Benefits

High-Efficiency Germ Separation

  • Accurately separates germ from the slurry stream, ensuring maximum oil recovery and optimized starch yield.
  • Two-stage design (13 cyclones in first stage, 7 in second stage) improves separation precision.

Durable Construction

  • Cyclones made from 316 stainless steel, work-hardened by spinning for maximum structural stiffness and long life.
  • 15-5 PH stainless steel heads resist cracking common in welded designs, ensuring reliability and durability.

Easy Maintenance & Accessibility

  • Quick-disconnect couplings simplify servicing and cyclone replacement.
  • Externally mounted cyclones allow easy access for inspection and maintenance without system disassembly.
  • Optional isolation valves enable maintenance flexibility.

Compact & Space-Efficient Design

  • Installed on a painted carbon steel support structure, engineered to minimize vibration and reduce floor space requirements.
  • Single-pump operation between first and second stage via stainless steel headers and piping reduces equipment costs and simplifies system design.

Robust & Reliable Connections

  • Fluid-Quip Quick Release Couplings: All-aluminum housings with stainless steel hinge pins for durability.
  • Molded EPDM rubber seals withstand corrosive and high-temperature applications.
  • Rated for full vacuum or up to 150 psig (10.3 bar).
  • Interchangeable with most grooved coupling connectors, adding flexibility and ease of integration.

Key Features

The Germ Separation System delivers efficient, durable, and low-maintenance performance for corn wet milling. Its two-stage stainless steel cyclone design, vibration-minimizing structure, and quick-service couplings ensure maximum oil recovery, higher starch yield, and reliable long-term operation.

Operating Principle

Conditioned slurry enters the hydrocyclones tangentially. Centrifugal force separates the lighter germ fraction from denser starch, fiber and liquid phases, and the separated streams leave through dedicated overflow and underflow outlets.
